How do I do that box thing?
The question of the week from a few of you lovelies that have downloaded the premade template is how to do a BLOCKQUOTE. Most of the questioners didn’t even know what it was called.
Blockquote: In HTML and XHTML, the blockquote element defines a block quotation within the text.
It is signified by the code <blockquote> Yo stuff here </blockquote>
BUT — handy as Blogger is — they have an icon for your blockquote. So all you have to do is highlight the text you want to be a blockquote and then find the icon. Look for the one that is a “
Blockquotes are also standard in WordPress – so don’t feel left out my fairer readers — check your toolbar for those quotes too. They are there. Now — you have to have your blockquotes style for them to look like a box. But, most templates come standard with a blockquote style of inset and italicized.

Holy moses! Thank you! I’ve been wondering about this but was too proud to ask. Thanks for sharing!
How would have thought that it was so easy? And here I was calling it a “text box” this whole time. Haha. Thanks so much for this post!
You are awesome. I had no idea it was that easy!! I have a white background on my blog post, to get it shaded in the background, is that an additional setting in the custom template? Thank you so much!
You have to cone it into the css — unfortunately. But there are a few great how-to posts out there that have premade css that all you have to do is copy and paste.
Thanks again. I shall seek it out. I love how it looks with the block quote so its worth researching.
I use blockquote a lot, and even more now that you’ve made it look so awesome. I like it when other people use it too, I love reviews that include quotes, they give me an idea of the writing. It’s very helpful.
Well hang me upside down and color me purple! I can’t believe it has been right in front of me the entire time!
I must be missing something. I highlighted the test and clicked on the ” and went to preview but nothing a colored area didn’t show up where the text I highlighted was.
I can’t figure it out as well. Maybe the settings in the customization. IDK
You have to have a template with the blockquote styled, if not it will only show up indented.
I must be missing something as well. I’m using blogger and it’s not working for me either.
How does one get this to highlight ?
By clicking the text with your mouse.
Hey guys — if you don’t have a blockquote styled in your CSS it won’t show up — it will just indent.
